Adverse Weather - Thornhill School Adverse Weather

Posted by Louise Newton at 3:17PM on 27 February 2018

We will always endeavour to open the school in the event of adverse weather, as long as it is safe to do so.  In the event of disruption caused by weather conditions such as heavy snow, the prime concern is always the safety of pupils and staff.  The decision to close the school will take account of the safety of all our pupils and staff, some of whom travel a great distance to school each day.

If the decision is made to close the school then parents will be sent a text and information will be posted on the Thornhill Academy website, Facebook and Twitter.  In addition we will use local radio stations such as Sun FM to convey the news as widely as possible, assuming that we are able to get through to them.  Whilst the decision to close will be made at the earliest point there may be circumstances in which the school needs to announce closure or amend the timings of the normal school day.  In this event parents will be informed via text message and pupils will be dismissed 30 minutes later.  Could we please ask for your support in ensuring that alternative arrangements, where necessary, are in place for this eventuality.

The website will run regular updates.
