Battlefields 2015 - Thornhill School Battlefields 2015

Posted by Louise Newton at 9:43AM on 07 October 2015

Mr Bewick and 2 year 11 pupils Jack Miller and Claire Cowdery took part in a government scheme to commemorate the centenary of the 1st World War.

We visited the battlefields of Ypres and the Somme in Belgium and France. Highlights included the last post ceremony at the Menin Gate, Thiepval Memorial and Tyne Cot cemetery where we found the grave of a soldier from Lawrence Street in Hendon.

It was an amazing experience and I'm really glad I got to go. It was really fun as well, especially when Mr Bewick ruined his pottery figure. I nearly cried laughing :)
