GCSE Results 2017 - Thornhill School GCSE Results 2017

Posted by Louise Meah at 10:04AM on 24 August 2017

Staff and governors at Thornhill are delighted with the results our young people have achieved this year. We wish to congratulate every one of our pupils for their success!

Despite the more difficult examinations the results are equal to those achieved in previous years and, at the highest A/A* grades, have broken all previous records with 91% of pupils achieving at least one such award within their suite of qualifications.

All the hard work of our pupils, supported by their teachers, teaching assistants and parents, has paid off. They will now be able to choose which career path they wish to follow into the future.

Among these pleasing outcomes are many exceptional performances e.g. Rhian Kilty who achieved ten A* grades plus two grade 9s (the new top grade) in English and Math’s.

These results confirm Thornhill remains amongst the highest performing secondary’s in the city and make a fantastic start to becoming an academy at the beginning of the academic year in September.

These results are hot on the heels of the August publication of the 2017 Real Schools Guide, which measures multiple factors of schools’ performances, and which placed Thornhill as the top secondary school/academy in Sunderland.

Thornhill’s young people move on well prepared to meet the demands of further education, employment or training with almost all pupils leaving, as befits a Business & Enterprise College, with business related GCSE qualifications in their portfolios.

Congratulations again to all our pupils, everyone associated with school wishes them good fortune!

Mr. J. Hallworth

Executive Head Teacher
