Harvest Collection - Thornhill School Harvest Collection

Posted by Louise Meah at 9:06AM on 17 September 2019

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of a great tradition here at Thornhill.

Every year, we ask pupils, parents and carers to contribute whatever they can afford to our harvest collection. This is a fantastic appeal that not only encourages our pupils to be caring and helpful individuals, but also helps those in society who need it most.

So, I am asking you to send in whatever you can. Tins, cans, packets and jars of food are all gratefully received and many pupils make a special purchase such as chocolates or biscuits.

At the end of our Harvest Festival in October, the food is divided between two wonderful charities in the community of Sunderland- Age UK Sunderland, who care for the elderly in Sunderland and a local foodbank in Sunderland which our technology teacher, Mr. Miller helps to run.

All contributions can be brought in by pupils and passed on to tutors. The food will then go on display at the Harvest Festival and will be shared between the two charities afterwards.

Thank you very much in anticipation of your help, support and generosity.

In addition to this, if you are a year 7 parent or carer please make a date in your diary for a great Thornhill tradition that involves all of our year 7 pupils- Harvest Festival- which is on Wednesday 23rd October at 6.30pm. Further details will be shared soon and tutors and heads of house in particular  look forward to seeing you there to support the children.
