Holocaust Memorial Day January 27th 2017 - Thornhill School
This week we reflect upon the events of the Holocaust and ensuing genocides. At Thornhill School we have had assemblies delivered to all pupils with the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2017 “how can life go on?” We strive to learn lessons from the past to help challenge prejudice and discrimination.
We also paid tribute to the Sunderland sisters Ida and Louise Cook who risked their lives to help smuggle scores of people out of Germany during the Nazi persecution. A blue plaque was unveiled at the entrance to Croft Avenue their childhood home. Due to their bravery there are survivors still living today with children and grandchildren and for them life has gone on.
True Sunderland heroines to be honoured this week Ida and Louise Cook.
