Sunderland baking sensation Stacie Stewart helped open the refurbished Food Technology Rooms at Thornhill on March 31st in the presence of The Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, invited guests and pupils.
The new facilities, were opened by Stacie with a ribbon cutting ceremony, prior to which the audience were serenaded by a four strong musical group. Three students, Rhiannan Orme from Year 8 and Rebecca Scott and Justin Douglas from Year 10 were presented with signed “Stacie Bakes” cookbooks as prizes for their designs of cup-cakes.
Oliver Mushens, an apprentice chef at Jesmond Dene Hotel & Restaurant and former pupil of Thornhill, was also on hand to answer some questions on working in the food industry.
Following the Q&A, Stacie officially opened the Rooms and guests were invited to review the fantastic facilities, all the while enjoying a cup of tea and some fantastic cup cakes that had been baked especially for the occasion!
