Sate of the City Debate – Civic Chambers
Sunderland Civic Centre Friday 27th 2015
Eight of our School council members represented Thornhill in a city wide youth debate last Friday. Set in the council chambers pupils debated 5 relevant themes including transport for young people, racism, mental health and the living wage.
Helping host the event on behalf of Sunderland Youth Parliament were SYP members Ruby Johnston and Fahmida Begum. Katie Booth of year 9 represented Sunderland Young Inspectors at the same event.
All participants voted for the theme of mental health to be explored further with appropriate agencies and the City Council.
Thornhill representatives at the above event will report back to our school council regarding the debate. Mental health will also be discussed at Thornhill’s next scheduled school council meeting.
