16 Year 9 pupils have successfully taken part in the Nissan TRYZ Program.
This involved them completing a one day induction at Nissan, during which they met young graduates and apprentices from different departments in the Sunderland Plant, watched a Careers presentation showing them the vast range of job roles available in the company and finishing with a plant tour to see the Trim and Chassis and Bodyshop departments in action.
They then took part in a 5 day challenge at Nissan where, in two teams, they competed to set up a production line and build cars to Nissan standard. They had to work out the work balance on the production line, check for and resolve quality issues, work out the cost of their production and work as a team to take on the roles that you would find on the real Nissan production line. This was a hard challenge involving science, maths, technology and engineering but the pupils rose to the challenge and were a credit to the school.
The pupils graduated on Friday afternoon as Nissan Industrial Cadets with a certificate and t-shirt. This was a great opportunity for pupils to make a good impression at one of the region’s largest apprenticeship providers and to gain invaluable experience of a work environment.
