Thank you to the numerous past pupils and staff who joined us in our celebration.
The morning started with pupils receiving an engraved water bottle and cupcake sponsored by our FASTA (Friends and staff of Thornhill Association) group. Staff received their commemorative cup and cupcake. There was a change of timetable with all year groups gathered for the balloon release. The balloons represented the five original houses at Thornhill by colour with the addition of the special gold balloons which had postcards attached to encourage some replies. Our special guests at that point were the Mayor, two ladies who came to Thornhill School when it opened in 1966 and representatives from our partner primary schools.
The pupils and guests released the balloons and then took part in Thornhill’s own mannequin challenge. Watch the balloon release video here. The pupils were then dismissed from school in good humour. Meanwhile the hall, which had been transformed into our own museum covering the five decades of Thornhill School, started to receive visitors. Past pupils and staff had travelled from far and wide to share in a few hours of memories, nostalgia and renewed friendships.
A truly emotional and wonderful evening!
