Transition Update July 2020 - Thornhill School Transition Update July 2020

Posted by Louise Meah at 10:59AM on 06 July 2020

We welcome all of our new Y7 students and their parents/carers to the Thornhill family for September 2020.

Everyone at Thornhill is excited to meet you again as we realise most of you have had a number of visits to us in Y5 and Y6. However there is no need to worry if you are coming from a school other than our main partner primary schools and you have not visited us often, as you are all new starters together and we really want to get to know you, help you make new friends and help you all settle into life at Thornhill.

Although we cannot have our usual Transition Days because of Covid 19 restrictions and government guidelines, we shall keep in touch with you and as always we aim for all of our new students to have a really positive start to secondary education.

By now you will have received your introductory pack including our “New Pupil Quick Read 2020/21”.  This booklet contains important information regarding the daily routines and systems here at Thornhill, so please ensure you study this booklet.  Any questions can be emailed to us at:

We are also intending to produce the following:

  • A “virtual tour” of our academy, showing you the main areas.
  • “Meet the staff video” - a chance to find out a little more about who will be caring for you in September (We will also share some information regarding your learning in September)

We aim to contact all families of our new starters by phone in order to answer any questions you may have.  For children with additional needs, either our SENCO or a member of our support department will be in contact with parents/carers to discuss how best to support the individual needs   of your child.

Please watch out for any additional challenges we may set for our new starters.... remember our new flag challenge?

As mentioned previously these are exciting times, combined with perhaps a little bit of anxiety which we fully understand.  Please regularly review our website and social media sites.  If you need any assistance at all then please contact me at school:
