57 year 7 and 8 pupils took part in the UK Maths Challenge which was held under exam conditions in the main hall on 1st May 2014. We received confirmation from the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) this week that of our pupils undertaking the challenge a third of them had been successful in achieving an award.
Best in year 8 as well as best in school was Rhian Kilty
Best in year 7 was Elliot Yule
1 student - Rhian Kilty (Yr8) obtained a gold award
6 pupils - Jacob Mearns, Lorna Parkinson, Jessica Grieveson, Jake Anderson (Yr8) Elliot Yule and Harry Barnes (Yr7) gained silver awards
12 learners - Ben Gilby, Jayden Stephen, Adam Carr, Adil Awal, Lewis Hellens, Stephanie Allen, Adam Armstrong (Yr8) Jessica Lonsdale, Demilee Turnbull, David Archibald, Habibah Begom and JJ Robins(Yr7) achieved bronze awards.
The successful pupils have already informed of their fantastic achievement.
The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils. Last academic year over 600,000 pupils from 4,000 schools took part in the three individual challenges, the UK's biggest national maths competitions.
