Curriculum Guide


Thornhill Academy is justly proud of its individualised and personalised curriculum enabling all pupils to achieve.


Pupils broadly follow the National Curriculum studying the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • ICT
  • Art
  • Design and Technology
  • Geography
  • History
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Religious Education


Pupils follow a range of differentiated pathways. These pathways involve academic and vocational courses. The majority of pupils study the following academic subjects: 

  • English Language and Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Science
    • Triple Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
    • Combined Science
  • Business and Communication Studies
  • History or Geography
  • Physical Education
  • Personal, Development Learning and Religious Education

Pupils then select from a wide choice of GCSE's and BTEC's qualifications.

A particularly strong contribution to this progress is made by the outstanding, well planned curriculum designed to meet pupils’ individual interests and aptitudes.
