Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) is part of all aspects of school life. This area is dedicated to providing resources to teachers and other adults in school to support our students in: 

• Aspiring to the range of possibilities ahead of them   

• Being well-informed of their future choices 

• Becoming active citizens with employability skills 

Curriculum areas 

CEIAG opportunities should be noted in curriculum planning and regular connections to careers and real life opportunities should be integral to curriculum delivery 

Departments should seek opportunities to engage with appropriate employment sectors with support from the Careers Lead. This will be essential for departments delivering vocational subjects.

Pastoral support 

Tutors are the first port of call for all student advice and guidance. Tutors and Heads of Year can support and signpost students to a wide range of resources to support their thinking and research into their future careers. 

Key events occur every year when a pastoral focus on future careers will be needed: 

• Year 7 and 8- Transition and where Secondary school leads 

• Year 9- GCSE Options choices 

• Year 10- Workplace experience and taster days 

• Year 11- Post 16 applications and transition preparation 

Students will be encouraged to record and review their own CEIAG pathways across their 5 years

National Careers Week-  National Careers week happens in the Spring term each year, but their helpful resources are available to you all year around.

Guidance lessons 

Careers education is embedded into the guidance programme and is built upon each year. In short, students will cover:  

• Year 7 – Introduction to Careers “Who Am I Now?”  

• Year 8 – Learning about Careers “Who Could I Be?”  

• Year 9 – Developing My Skills  

• Year 10 – Becoming Employable  

• Year 11 – Preparing for My Future 

Guidance teachers should be aware of the progression though the student’s 5 years to maximise the impact of student experiences.
